Paid Internship Program (PIP)
The Paid Internship Program (PIP)has been created to offer
local area businesses of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County
the opportunity to participate in subsidized employment.
"Subsidized employment" is a job provided to Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) recipients wherein the subsidized employment employer is reimbursed for up to 320 hours and/or a maximum of $4,800 for each eligible participant. The program is designed to provide reimbursement for each employee up to $15.00 per hour of paid employment and up to 320 hours or a maximum not to exceed $4,800. This equates to full-time employment at 40 hours a week for 24 consecutive weeks. To the extent that the employer and participant meet all of the subsidized employment requirements, AAWDC will reimburse the employer for up to 100% of the gross salary that the employer actually pays to the participant during the 1st and 6th month of employment.
However, this reimbursement to the subsidized employer does not include any of the following costs:
- Payment for Overtime
- Unemployment Insurance Costs
- Worker’s Compensation Costs
- The value of any benefits provided by the subsidy employment employer to the participant during the period of subsidized employment.
This program benefits the economy in two ways:
- PIP alleviates the employer costs for job training, support
services, and hiring facilitation.
- PIP serves as the bridge that will return JWA clients back
into the workforce community.
