To prepare a new and incumbent workforce with a flexible and dynamic set of skills for Maryland's emerging green economy jobs that will encourage growth and competitiveness across the region.
Maryland Energy Sector Partnership
The Maryland Governor's Workforce Investment Board was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to train 2000 workers in green industries by June 2012. The growing green industries identified in Maryland were renewable energy, careers in environmental protection, green manufacturing and green building. To learn more, visit Jobs for a Healthy Planet.
Renewable Energy
Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation leads the Go Solar! Regional Partnership to train new and incumbent workers in solar panel installation.
Training Options:
- Pre-apprenticeship for entry-level workers on solar PV systems and design
- Certification on solar PV installation for Incumbent Electrical Workers
Environmental Careers
Anne Arundel Community College leads the CACHE: Institute for Environmental Careers to train workers in conservation practices surrounding the Chesapeake Bay
Training Options:
- Ecosystem Restoration
- Environmental Monitoring and Assessment
- Environmental Technology, Energy, and Management
Green Manufacturing
Baltimore County leads the Baltimore Regional Green Tech Workers Program to improve manufacturing sustainability practices, waste stream management and "lean to green" practices.
Two Training Options:
- Green Worker Training Program for entry-level workers
- Green Specialist Certification for incumbent workers
Green Building
Montgomery County leads the Green Training for Energy Efficiency Achievement to train workers in green construction and energy efficiency techniques.
Four Training Options:
- Green Advantage and LEED Certifications
- Mechanical Insulation Energy Appraiser
- Smart Grid Electrical Utility Technology
- Insulators Union and Electrical Workers Apprenticeships
