AAWDC Staff Biographies
Steve Harrison:
Steve Harrison has been the Labor Exchange Administrator for Anne Arundel County since November of 1999. In that capacity he oversees the public labor exchange services at four locations in the county. Services include but are not limited to job matching, resume preparation, interview workshops, employer services, job readiness and computer workshops.
Prior to his current position Steve worked at the Eastpoint Office located in Baltimore County. Steve served in many capacities from Unemployment Insurance Program Interviewer to Office Manager from 1981-1999. Throughout his career Steve has been responsible for a number of programs including Unemployment Insurance, Veterans Programs, and Job Service Programs.
Steve attended the University of Maryland and has a degree from Anne Arundel Community College and Rochville University. Also, he is a graduate of the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship Class for 2006.
Aleatha (Lisa) R. Stroman, Program Director - Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP):
Lisa Stroman joined Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) as the Metrotech Program Director in 2002. Reporting directly to the President/CEO, Stroman now leads AAWDC's Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). Stroman is responsible for fostering and promoting useful, part-time community service training opportunities for older workers that may lead to unsubsidized employment in the public and private sector workforce. Stroman develops new initiatives, vision, branding and marketing, strategic direction and operational management for this outstanding and innovative older worker program. Stroman has 30-plus years of workforce, economic and business development experience to help assure timely delivery of services.
Before joining AAWDC as an employee, Stroman was Chairman of AAWDC's Corporate Board of Directors. Prior to becoming part of AAWDC's management team, Stroman was CEO of SBS, Incorporated, a MBE certified business specializing in training and development. A short synopsis of Stroman's career: Program Manager of Career development (YWCA), Director of Information Systems, Oxford Corporation; Adjunct Professor, Baltimore City Community College; Certified Teacher, Anne Arundel County Maryland, Dade County Florida, and Guam.
Stroman received her Masters Degree in Business Administration from Rochville University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education Computer Sciences from Bethune-Cookman University (BCC).
Rene' C. Swafford:
Rene' C. Swafford joined Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC) in May of 2007, as Deputy Director. As Deputy Director Mrs. Swafford assists in planning, development, and implementation of services provided by AAWDC, the One-Stop Centers, and other agency programs, as well as serving as the agency's Equal Employment Opportunity Officer.
Prior to joining AAWDC, Mrs. Swafford was admitted to the Court of Appeals of Maryland and United States District Court for The District of Maryland in 2000. Mrs. Swafford's legal experience includes Common Law, Litigation and all aspects of Real Estate and Family Law.
In the Anne Arundel County's public service arena Mrs. Swafford has been appointed to the County Executive's Personnel Board, and the City-County Growth Task Force. Mrs. Swafford also serves on the North County Political Forum, educating, encouraging voter registration and mobilization of residents of that area while continuing to play a prominent role in contract negotiation and lobbying at a State and City level for the Annapolis-based Opportunities Industrialization Center of Anne Arundel County.
As a Viet Nam Era Veteran, Mrs. Swafford is supportive of rights of military personnel, combat survivors and their families. Mrs. Swafford has also contributed to the current success of our county's economic growth by promoting strong yet viable social, educational policies while demanding performance accountability of those elected to political office. Mrs. Swafford has encouraged training and helped provide better employment services to our citizens and residents particularly our young people and those of lower income levels through her volunteer work for diverse organizations such as Anne Arundel County Minority Business Enterprise Committee (MBEC), ALMAA, RESPECT Inc., and as an advocate for The Public Justice Center/American Bar Association representing tenants in the District Court.
Mrs. Swafford's professional memberships include Maryland State Bar Association, Anne Arundel Bar Association, American Bar Association, Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and Mrs. Swafford is a Certified Mediator within Civil, Employment and Family Law.
